“Actualized, and it feels so good” is André Ethier’s second solo exhibition at LA’s Honor Fraser. An exploration of narratives using haunting hybrid styles, the exhibition presents elements of portraiture, still life, folk, and sci-fi. “Actualized, and it feels so good” is on display until September 4th, 2010.

Caitlin Cronenberg: Poser

25-year-old Caitlin Cronenberg’s self-published book “Poser” offers up an intimate look into the lives of a wide-range of individuals. Cronenberg prides herself in exploring taboo areas as the 133 nonprofessional models in her book “have, for the most part, experienced some sort of scarring, body modification or piercing”, she explains in the National Post. “Poser” includes an index at the back which reveals each model’s story.“Poser” is available in hardcover at Indigo ($45 CAN) and online at CaitlinCronenberg.com.

The latest issue of Montreal quarterly street magazine SNAP! boasts a new 10×16 in. format to showcase some of the most compelling artistic content. A design by Calgary-based mixed media artist Jared Larsen covers the issue which includes commentary on “all things print, publication, and paper — from magazine culture to the decline in newsprint journalism, to discussions with six paper-based artists woking out of Montreal”.

The Paintings of Jason de Graaf

Jason de Graaf is a photorealist artist from Quebec. He is able to document what he sees through his art and also create the illusion of depth and sense of presence not found in photographs. Jason’s paintings “are about the relationship of light with reflective and transparent surfaces and his journey to understand those qualities and convey his sense of wonder and intrigue over them.”

Jared Nickerson Covers Computer Arts

Halifax-born freelance illustrator Jared Nickerson has graced the cover of UK-based Computer Arts for their upcoming issue 139 release. Available July 15th, the magazine — specific to character design — features more than 30 of Jared’s colourful characters. Issue 139 also includes a full feature and interview with Nickerson, founder of J3 Concepts.

One Way or Another

A sequel to last summer’s successful “Smile On Your Brother” project, “One Way or Another” will feature over 50 artist-designed skateboards in a travelling, nation-wide art show. In support of Contributor — an initiative that aims to provide skateboards to disadvantaged youths in Canada, Society6 and Club Mumble have collaborated on the project to curate 25 artists and collectives from around the world to create orginal boards that will be sold, with all proceeds going directly to kids across the country. Unique to last year’s format, “One Way or Another” supporters will pre-purchase an artist’s time to design a board, so when the finished product has a surprise element.

123klan Prints

Two new prints by Montreal-based graffiti duo, 123klan, have surfaced. Continually producing pieces with great graphic integrity, “Banditism” and “Le voleur” show no exception. “Banditism” plays on a number of popular and ubiquitous logos including a nod to New Era. “Le voleur,” which shows a burglar attempting to escape with a flawed loot bag, is equally as bold.

Limited to 20, plus 6 hand-signed and embossed, the prints are available at Pigments Editions ($90 US).

The 1 of 1 Project

Winnipeg-based Chris Watchorn has been busy preparing the launch of The 1 of 1 Project, an event that will see a mix of artists express their talents on a blank Vans sneaker as their canvas. With goals aimed at promoting the local Winnipeg creative scene alongside raising funds for The Children’s Hospital Foundation of Winnipeg, The 1 of 1 Project will feature participants: Mark Dean Veca, Phil Annand, Larry Luk, and Watchhorn himself. Nunavut-based publishing company Inhabit Media Inc. promotes research in Inuit mythology and the traditional Inuit knowledge of Nunavummiut. The authors, storytellers and artists they work with bring this knowledge to life in a way that is accessible to readers in both northern and southern Canada. Inhabit Media has teamed up with Irish artist Eva Wildermann, for the Inuit Mythology Project — an effort to collect and preserve the culture, the legends, and the heroes of the Inuit for current and future generations.
