Koerner Hall by KPMB Architects

Toronto-based architects, Kuwabara Payne McKenna Blumberg Architechts are the creative minds behind the design of Koerner Hall, a brilliant aspect of Toronto’s Telus Center for Performing and Learning. The building belongs to the Royal Conservatory of Music, an organization that has provided the finest music and arts education to millions of Canadians over the past century. The concert hall seats 1135 including 2 balconies above the main orchestra and an additional third technical balcony. Flexibility is a key aspect when describing the Koerner Hall as ’sightlines and adjustable acoustics allow for a broad range of concert types including live televised broadcast’. While the balconies, seats, and hall floors of natural oak hold quite the appearance, the veil of oak strings which provides a backdrop for the first balcony and wraps its way above the stage and over the third balcony draws an astonishing amount of visual attention.
